Project of the Month - Faux-Cabled Yoga Socks

So I started taking yoga at Carroll Community College, and my feet were cold. I found these online and modified the pattern for thicker yarn and bigger needles, which equals warmer feet faster! (Of course, now everything's cancelled due to the blizzard, but I still have Wii Fit!)

Yarn: Bernat Cottontots - one skein is more than enough (you can get this at Michaels, JoAnns, etc)

Needles: Size 6, 4 double-pointed (I prefer bamboo. Save the heartache and avoid metal)

Gauge (yeah I actually did one!) - 18 stitches is 4 inches

Pattern: Cast on 36 stitches, divide as follows, then join in a circle: Needle 1 - 7 stitches; Needle 2 - 11 stitches, Needle 3 - 18 stitches

Needle 1 and Needle 2 will be the front/top of your sock, Needle 3 will be the back/bottom

TOP/ANKLE OF SOCK

1st the ribbing: P1, (K4, P2)* repeat from * til end of round, but end with P1. Continue until sock measures 1" long.

Next the twisted rib:

Row 1: P1, (K4, P2)*, repeat * til end but end with P1.

Row 2: P1, (RT twice(see below), P2)* repeat * til end but end with P1

Row 3: Same as Row 1

Row 4: P1, (K1, RT, K1, P2)* repeat * til end but end with P1

Repeat Rows 1-4 until the sock measures 4" in length from the top.

Bind off the 18 stitches on needle 3.

BOTTOM/FOOT OF SOCK

Row 1: Continue where you left off with the twisted rib pattern across Needles 1 and 2 (now the top of your sock). Cast on 18 stitches onto needle three (I just use a half hitch cast on but if you do pull it tight!)

Row 2: Continue where you left off with the twisted rib pattern across Needles 1 and 2. Across needle 3, work (K4, P2) ribbing starting and ending with a P1. (This makes the bottom of your sock flatter so it doesn't bother you while you are standing on it).

Work these two rows until the bottom of the sock measures 3". Then work (K4, P2) ribbing around the whole sock for an inch. Bind off.

(RT = Right Twist: K2tog, leaving stitches on LH needle, insert RH needle from front between 2 stitches knitted together on the LH needle and knit first stitch again, then slide both stitches from LH needle together to the RH needle)
